Welcome to Third Grade!
Dear Families,
Welcome to third grade at Lincoln School! I am so excited to have your child in my class. It will be a wonderful year!
My name is Cynthia Mares and I will be your child’s third grade teacher for the 2019 – 2020 school year. I am looking forward to an exciting year of positive and rewarding learning experiences. I am excited about helping your child learn and grow during this important year.
The Lincoln Elementary School Open House is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 12th. This evening meeting is for parents, and is a time to learn more about the curriculum and activities pertaining to third grade.
At the end of this message, there is a link to a brief Google Form to fill out in order for me to get to know you and your child better! Your feedback is very important, so please take a few moments to answer the short questionnaire.
Here is a brief run-down of some need-to-know information:
SUPPLIES
If you pre- ordered your child’s supplies, they are already in the classroom. If you did not order in advance, please send all of your child’s supplies on the first day of school.
Earbuds or headphones are required for each student, and these must be supplied by you. Most kids find headphones to be more comfortable, but it is up to you and your child.
iPADS
Third Grade students are each given an iPad for their work at school. In our classroom, we will use Google Classroom, a private blended learning platform to assign, distribute, and manage our workflow. To share work privately with parents, students will use Seesaw. Viewing your child's work is simple, but will require the download of the Seesaw Parent app on your device.
SNACKS and WATER
Your child should bring a refillable water bottle to school especially on hot days. Third grade students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school to eat mid-morning every day. Some good choices might include fruit, veggies, yogurt, Goldfish, pretzels, or string cheese. Please check the list of ingredients on all food items you send to school. Please do not send ANY classroom snacks with peanut or tree nut ingredients. There are students in our classroom who suffer from severe food allergies. Exposure to even a small amount of an allergen is serious and potentially life-threatening. Your assistance is needed to ensure a safe classroom environment.
COMMUNICATION
Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns. I will respond quickly. You can also contact me by phone at 708-366-7340 x8164. I will send a newsletter home every other Friday. Friday folders will be sent home each week. Please review the work, sign the parent sheet, and have your child return it on the following Monday. Also, please check your child's Seesaw account frequently.
Please check out our classroom website for classroom news, resources for you and your child, school information, newsletters, and anything else about our classroom.
HOMEWORK
I strongly encourage daily reading, spending time with family and friends, interest-based and extracurricular activities.
I look forward to working with you and your child this year! I know this will be an amazing year in third grade.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mares
